electric wire drawing
Delicate line-shaped wall”drawings” are created by inserting specific electric wiring into the wall.
As Judith Fegerl connects the inserted wires to electric power they carry current and slowly burn through the covering plaster. By employing the material‘s native purpose, Judith Fegerl creates traces that not only mark the wires’ concealed position but also their potential.
Thin and irregular line-shaped burn-marks are thereby created on the wall. Each line‘s ends are defined by uncoated twisted steel cables sticking out of the wall. Composed of burned straight lines and gently curved cables the wall-piece will be barely visible from afar.
Approaching the piece the fine lines appear to the viewer‘s eye and taking an even closer look the very process of creation starts revealing itself.
The piece “cauter” by Judith Fegerl is following a consistent string of works debating construction, functionality and identity of space and man-serving machinery both powered by and depending on the supply of electricity.
